Abstract
We intended to translate and validate the Ruminative Thought Style Questionnaire(RTSQ) known as measuring uncontrolled repetitive thinking styles in Korean sample. Total 448 students of cyber university(Sample A consisting of 245 Ss plus Sample B consisting of 203 Ss) completed K-RTSQ, Korean Ruminative Response Scale(K-RRS), Penn State Worry Questionnaire(PSWQ), Korean version of Beck Depression Inventory(K-BDI), and Korean version of Beck Anxiety Inventory(K-BAI) through online survey. The results revealed that K-RTSQ had both high internal consistency and appropriate test-retest reliability. In addition, K-RTSQ showed significant positive correlations with K-RRS and PSWQ showing its convergent validity and displayed significant positive correlations with K-BDI and K-BAI, supporting its criterion-related validity. Exploratory factor analysis(EFA) performed with maximum likelihood extraction and direct oblimin oblique rotation in Sample A yielded four-factor structure consisting of ¡®Problem-unsolving Thoughts¡¯, ¡®Counterfactual Thoughts¡¯, ¡®Uncontrolled Repetitive Thoughts¡¯, and ¡®Anticipatory Thoughts¡¯ explaining 65.797% of total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) conducted in the same sample to adjust and elaborate four-factor structure showed adequate model fit. The final structure from CFA was a hierarchical model of one secondary factor embracing four primary factors. To verify generalizability of factor structure, structural equation multiple-group analysis was conducted using data from separate Sample B. The result showed that differences of factor structure between sample A and B were not significant, and it suggested that K-RTSQ has a stable factor structure. Finally, the implications and limitations of current study and suggestions for the future study were discussed.
